Fitting the Mago Knot

Fitting Mago Hair Extensions is a simple process. The Mago Knot is pre-tied and comes fitted onto an extension ring. Mago extensions are attached separate from your own hair. Allowing more flexibility as the movement of the extension is free from your own hair. This means less stress of weight on the scalp. Once looped onto the client’s hair, all that is required is a tug on the cotton string. This creates a tiny double knot, attaching the extension to the hair securely. Remember the knot tightens when wet and can reduce in size by up to 30%. Allowing the client to rest their head on the knot without irritation.

Removing the Mago Knot

If fitting Mago Hair Extensions is simple, removing them is when you really appreciate the magic of the knot. No chemicals or solvents, no tugging at the scalp and no cumbersome tools required! Removal is just a simple scissor snip away.

Simply, cut, pull and slide the knot off the hair.

“I struggled for years… until I found Mago”

As a curly-haired client, I struggled for years to find a match that delivered the degree of curl that I required to the very best standard until I found Mago. I now have fuller and longer curls.

Since attending the Mago course, which consisted of in-depth knowledge, 1-1 practical training and an understanding of the method, I have built a varied clientele who have taken great interest in the brand. What does Mago name mean?

The name Mago originates from an ancient Korean goddess who cared for all natural life on Earth. Mago symbolised the innate natural beauty within us all, with her golden strands of hair representing the earth, sun and the energy of new life. We believe Mago Hair Extension are the most natural and healthy extension system on the market and they will bring new life and energy to the innate natural beauty we all hold.

What kind of knot is used in Mago?

Mago was born in Korea, where Mountains cover 70% of the land. Hiking is a regular workout for many Koreans, and Mago was invented by borrowing one of this land’s climbing knots.

Will the extension stay?

When the extension is securely knotted, it will stay in your client's hair for more than 6 months. The knot makes a hook out of the hair and links itself on to the hook, which is the reason it is so secure.

What about when soaked in water? Or, do we need to use special shampoo?

No special shampoos are required. The Mago string is made of cotton polyester, and it actually shrinks by around 30% when it meets with water, making the knot even more secure. A good analogy would be, what happens to the knots on your shoelaces when they are wet? They become harder to untie.

Can you accidentally cut the hair when removing the knot?

There is a section of the knot where you can cut the knot safely without cutting any of your client’s natural hair in the process. Once you have attended a Mago Training Academy you will have all the skills required to ensure that you only cut and remove the knot and not the client’s natural hair.

What about the colour of the strings?

What you often see in our Mago training videos is a different colour string to the hair. This is to help us illustrate the method during training or when demonstrating the Mago Hair Extension. Rest assured, the colour of the strings match the colour of the hair perfectly. If the color of the hair is black, the string is black. If the color of the hair is blonde, the string is blonde. We can even create extensions that use different colour string for a specific hair colour.  For example we can have a medium colour string for the very light blonde hair colour because on occasions, client's root colour of their blonde hair can be darker. However this needs to be pre-programed with production before purchase and the lead time can take longer. It’s always best to check before agreeing fitting dates with your client's.

Where does the hair come from?

The hair comes from the temples in India where people donate their hair to the gods as prayers. Once the hair is cut, the temples then collect the hair and sell them to hair organisations around the world for use in the beauty and cosmetic industry. This means we can obtain a sustainable supply of rich Indian hair, that is also fairly traded, unlike other hair around the world. Mago are very conscious of where our hair originates from and only work with partners when we are certain of ‘fair trade’ and ethical sourcing.

How long does it take to apply and remove full set of Mago extensions?

An experienced Mago Specialist can fit a full set of Mago Hair Extensions for a client in approximately 1-1.5 hours, and can remove a full set in less than 1 hour. The more you do and the more you practice the quicker and easier you will find th

Are Mago hair extensions reusable?

This is one of the most asked questions. Our answer is that the hair can be re-used if client’s wish, but the knot is not reusable because it is cut from the hair when being removed. So we do not recommend reusing Mago in any way since it is not a system that is intended for multiple use, and reusing the hair does not deliver the best customer experience.
